Description:
The Monastery of Notre Dame de Simieux is one of the famous and ancient sights of Nice - the city of France. Located on a high hill surrounded by Simie Park, which complements the image of the historic sacred building. It was built by the Franciscans in the XIV century, who reconstructed the old chapel of Benedictine monks. The last additions that created the current type of structure were completed in the XIX century. Today, the monastery can present examples of medieval art and the tomb of Matisse.
The sacred building of Notre Dame de Simieux is decorated with rich frescoes, valuable paintings and an ancient crucifix, which is the work of French artist Louis Brea. Visiting the walls of the building, you can learn facts about the life and everyday life of Franciscan monks.
At the walls of the monastery of Notre Dame de Simie is a sculptural composition in the form of a rooster and a falcon, in which the latter is struck, which recalls the victims who died in the First World War.
