English Quay
Description:
The promenade of the English was built in 1820 by the Englishman Lewis Way in honor of the visit to Nice of the English Queen Victoria and was a path two meters wide. After this visit, Nice became the winter capital of the British Empire.
For several decades, the embankment was renewed. In 1856, the Promenade des Anglet was extended to the Magnan Canal and expanded to 8 meters. In 1862, the promenade was extended even further to St. Helen Street, and twenty years later the English Walk reached Carra Street.
In 1930, one of the odious mayors of Nice, Jean Medzan, passed along the embankment of the highway and supplemented it with squares and palm trees - up to the Boulevard Gambetta.
The reconstruction of the embankment was completed only in 1965, when its length reached the airport.
