Massena Square

Place Mass na, Nice, France

Description:

Massena Square is the central square of the French city of Nice. This is an unusually beautiful place surrounded by ancient buildings and architectural monuments.

Massena Square is named after the talented marshal of the French army André Massena, an ally of Napoleon. The main decoration of the square is the Sun fountain with beautiful bronze sculptures depicting ancient gods. The center of the composition is a seven-meter statue of naked Apollo, which at one time caused a lot of prudish disputes.

Despite the general touch of antiquity, Massena Square is no stranger to modern art - in 2007, seven statues of white rubber were installed here, created by the talented sculptor Jaume Plens. The statues are located on long poles along the tramways, and the wonderful blue lighting gives this creative installation a completely cosmic look. But otherwise, the square looks classic - it is framed by beautiful old buildings in the Genoese style, from which the late European Middle Ages blow.

Massena Square is considered one of the main attractions of Nice, locals love to walk here and you can always meet many tourists.
