Nice Museum of Fine Arts
33 avenue des Baumettes, 06000 Nice
About the company:
The Museum of Fine Arts is located west of the Old Town, on the winding Avenue des Baumettes. It is often called the Jules Cheret Museum, as it presents a solid collection of works by this artist, most of whose life was spent in Nice.
Every year, within the walls of this beautiful palace, made in the Genoese style, there are quite a lot of visitors, admiring more than 6000 works of art, starting with paintings of the XVII century to the works of post-impressionists of the 40s of the XX century. The collection of the museum is dedicated primarily to the works of French painters of the second half of the XIX century - Monet, Degas, Sisley, as well as Fragonard, Raoul Dufy, Alexis Moss and Jules Cheret, one of the first artists who worked in the poster genre.
In addition, here you can find works of the Renaissance, and sculptures by Auguste Rodin, and works of classicism. The museum also features works by Maria Bashkirtseva, a talented Russian artist from Poltava province who lived in Nice for several years. The name Bashkirtseva went down in history, thanks to the publication of her diaries and correspondence with Guy de Maupassant.
