Fountain garden in Nimes

26 Quai de la Fontaine, 30900 Nimes, France

Description:

The Garden of Fountains is located northwest of Mezon Carre, in the historic center of Nim. The name was received in honor of the fountains, which are the main element of the design of the majestic garden.

On the territory of the garden are the Tur-Man tower and the temple of Diana, which owe their appearance to the clearing of the source bed in the XVIII century. During this period, baths and a Roman theater were also discovered east of the first site. The garden park was designed to provide better visibility to the Temple of Diana and the Tower of Tour Man. The author of the project was Jacques-Philippe Marechal, who was a military engineer under Louis XV, as well as the chief fortifier of Languedoc.

The park reflects the spirit of France of the seventeenth century. The springs are ennobled with marble, there is a double staircase, canals and an embankment, as well as statues brought from the Château de la Mosson, which personify Him. The wonderful view is supported by plants and trees that grow here due to the climate of the Mediterranean.

The garden of fountains was planned in the place where the spring of Nemesus struck, which laid the foundation of Nimu. It became one of the first public parks in Europe. The fountain garden is still the main attraction of the city of Nim.
