Other Loire castles: Cheverney, Chaumont, Blois
Description:
Cheverney.
Cheverney Castle has retained its unique charm and special comfort due to the fact that for almost 500 years it remained in the possession of one family - Huraul de Vibrae. And now they are owned by the descendants of this noble family. However, there were times when the castle left the hands of this family. For example, at one time it was owned by the beloved of King Henry II, Diane de Poitiers. And this is not the only castle given to this Beautiful Lady, who was almost 20 years older than the king. The magnificent castle of Chenonceau also belonged to her. The beautifully preserved Cheverney Castle Ball is the first in the valley to open to visitors. Since 1922, the castle has been closed only 3 times: for the first time when the English Queen Mother visited Cheverney in 1963, then on the occasion of the sad event - the funeral of the Marquise de Vibray in 1976 and last time - on November 26, 1994 during the festive celebrations dedicated to the wedding of the current owners of the castle. The wedding dress of the newlywed, like other personal items, we can see in private rooms. When we walk through this part of the castle, where the owners themselves lived recently, such a strange feeling arises, even a little awkward. It was like looking into the house without the owners. In addition, Cheverney is famous for its huge hunting dogs, there are about 70. And the dog hunt continues here, just like in the good old days.
Degustation of exquisite wines of cheverni wines.
Chaumont.
This castle was the favorite castle of Catherine de Medici. While her husband, Henry II, was king, France was subject to his beloved, the famous Diana de Poitiers. Diana herself lived a few dozen kilometers away - in Chenonceau Castle. Of course, the word “lived” is used here in its relative meaning, since the nobles in those days owned castles in the provinces and palaces in Paris and moved from one of their estates to another. Nevertheless, Chenonceau Castle was Diana's favorite possession. As soon as Henry II died, Catherine de Medici took Chenonceau from Diana and gave her Chaumont. Having settled here, Diana broke one of the walls of the castle, standing on the high bank of the Loire, and opened the sun to the rest of the rooms of the castle.
Blois.
A city on the banks of the Loire. The entrance to the castle is decorated with the emblem of Louis 12 - porcupine. The castle courtyard is unique. The powerful building of the Council of the 13th century is adjacent to the royal chambers of the late 14th – early 15th century, and those, in turn, with a powerful Renaissance wing of the Renaissance. Nearby is a 17th-century palace built by Louis' brother 13. Exquisite royal architecture of different eras and trends, collected in one courtyard!
