Excursion to the House of Disabled

Description:

The House of the Disabled, one of the famous architectural monuments of Paris, was built at the end of the 17th century by the no less famous king - the sun Louis, in the second half of his life, to leave in the memory of people something human, made by the king.

He said in his will: “Among all the buildings erected by our mercy in the time of our omnipotence, not one goes so far as the sovereign House of the Disabled.”

Louis lived a very long life - 77 years, of which 32 years France fought, leaving after the wars a huge number of disabled soldiers - disabled, who had nowhere to go in this life. The house was designed for 4,000 people, where former soldiers lived on full state support, and also worked in the royal manufactories there.

Centuries passed, and the House of the Disabled still remained one of the most significant monuments in Paris, great monks and ordinary people came here, and “go to the House of the Disabled” was considered an important event! It was possible not only to admire the magnificent architectural ensemble, but also to chat with the old warriors, who for a few su liked to tell about the war, often embellishing the story.

In 1840, according to his will, Napoleon Bonaparte was reburied here from the island of St. Helena, so from now on this place is also associated with him.

Now most of the House of the Disabled is occupied by the Army Museum, where a huge collection of weapons and trophies is collected, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

We will admire the architecture of this majestic ensemble, I will tell you the history of construction and many funny stories from the lives of its inhabitants, who, by the way, live here in our time.
