Excursion to Chartres

Description:

A charming ancient city in the heart of France, even before the conquest by the Romans in the 50s BC, a tribe of Carnauts settled here. The city center has preserved the medieval style-narrow streets and numerous colombiage houses of the 13th-18th centuries.

A walk through the lower city, at the river Er is just an immersion in the old days, even surprise flocks of schoolchildren or rare walkers; and it seems that now because of the turn, a knight or a medieval citizen will appear.

Most travelers come to see the famous Chartres Cathedral Notre Dame, a pearl of Gothic architecture. But there are other interesting temples:

Abbey of Saint-Per-en-Vallet (12-13 centuries), the churches of Saint-Bris (11 centuries) and Saint-Andre (12 centuries), the Gothic Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, the Renaissance Cathedral of Saint-Aignan (16-17 centuries).

But it is in Notre Dame that the most valuable relic of the entire Christian world is kept - the Plaque of the Most Holy Virgin.

Many pilgrims who come to worship the Shrine are pleasantly surprised that a walk through this ancient original town is so pleasant. Even if you’re not interested in religious sites, Chartres remains a great place to explore Europe’s historical heritage.

The tour can be combined with a visit to Montenon Castle.
