Excursion to Vaud Le Vicomte Castle

Description:

It is said that it was out of envy for this palace that Louis XIV began to build Versailles.

The castle was built at the request of the Intendant Nicolas Fouquet.

The all-powerful minister planned to create something magnificent, capable of striking the spoiled French aristocracy. At the ceremonial housewarming, Moliere and La Fontaine performed, the tables were bursting with dishes on gold dishes. The grand performance ended with fireworks. The king was furious because the minister’s palace was more luxurious than the royal residences. He ordered Fouquet to be arrested, confiscated the castle, and Nicolas Fouquet spent many years in prison until his death.

The intriguing history of the castle, which exalted its owner for one evening and which ruined its owner, is illustrated by the luxurious interiors and magnificent gardens. The castle is privately owned and it is all the more interesting to look at how modern aristocrats live and with what trepidation they relate to the historical heritage.

The castle by candles can be seen on Saturday evenings from May to October. Thousands of lit candles and sounding music of the 17th century will not leave anyone indifferent.
