Paris

Cities of Sherburg, Granville, Villdieu-La Pouille

Description:

In this program, I suggest an unusual Normandy! Cities that are rarely shown to tourists, but which deserve your attention.
A trip for 2 days, because the cities are more than 300 km from Paris and so that you have time to enjoy the unforgettable atmosphere of these lovely towns, understand them, relax in them!!!

Many of you have certainly heard about Sherburg, because it was there that the famous very romantic film “Umbrellas of Sherburg” was shot! Sherburg is very different from other cities in Normandy. It has its own rich history, connected with the sea, transatlantic liners, the dream of Europeans about the distant alluring America. I would love to show you this city. Then we will go to the town where people retain their skills, skills and skills, where we will see the workshops of bells and copper products in the city of Villieu-la-Poelle, where the most beautiful and sonorous bells were cast for the cathedrals and churches of France. This is a city where you can see the skill of local craftsmen in the glow of copper products at every step in the shop windows. In this city, for the 850th anniversary for Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris, new bells were cast using ancient technology. Bells were brought to Paris and installed in the bell tower of the cathedral. The city was originally called “God’s City” and was founded by the Knights of the Military Monastery Order of Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, which later became the Order of the Knights of Malta. The Knights of the Order of Malta, which still exists and is very popular in France, maintain a lively contact with this Norman city even after 400 years after the first "Great Initiation" - the so-called "Great Feast of God", which takes place every year in this town. Usually on the day of the holiday, the city is very beautifully decorated with the flags of the Order of Malta and even in the coat of arms of the city there is a red cross of the Knights of Malta. Knights of the Order of Malta hold a solemn procession through the city. The city is located 311 km west of Paris, so I suggest a trip for 2 days to combine with a visit to the city of Granville - the birthplace of the great couturier - Christian Dior. We will be able to see this city – a balneological resort and the Christian Dior Museum. The great couturier was born in this house in 1905. Here he spent his happy childhood, studied a lot, but in those days almost nothing said that the guy would be famous, except for his small hobby: he with great zeal made costumes for carnivals held in his hometown, which “resulted” this hobby – you guessed it! In the house - the Museum of Dior there are exhibitions of his costumes. The museum is a very beautiful villa by the sea, surrounded by a beautiful garden.

In the same program, I suggest visiting a park of oysters with tasting, to see where and how they are grown and, of course, to taste their fresh ones on the beach.
