It is located about 50 km from Paris. It was built at the request of Intendant Nicolas Fouquet. To create the palace, Fouquet invited the best creators of his time - architect Louis Leveaux, painter Charles Lebrun and architect of the gardens Andre Lenotre.
The all-powerful minister planned to create something magnificent, capable of striking the spoiled French aristocracy. At the solemn housewarming ceremony, Moliere and Lafontaine performed, the tables were bursting with food, and the grandiose performance ended with fireworks. The king was furious because the minister’s palace was more luxurious than the royal residences. He ordered the arrest of Fouquet, confiscated the estate, and the heirs of the minister managed to get the palace back only 10 years later.
In 1965, the Vaux-les-Vicomte estate received the status of a state reserve. The unique garden and park ensemble can serve as a visual aid for landscape designers, and the palace, which caused the sharp jealousy of the great king, delights us to this day. In addition to the magnificent intrigues, there is an exhibition of carriages and interesting installations with wax figures.
The castle can be seen on Saturdays from May to October. Thousands of lit candles and sounding music of the 17th century will not leave anyone indifferent.
