Paris

In the footsteps of the impressionists. Sisley and the town of Moret-sur-Lowen

Description:

Sometimes tourists want to see provincial France, but not far away from Paris. Not far from the castle of Fontainebleau on the river Louin there are many such charming places, but it was the ancient Moret-sur-Louin that Alfred Sisley chose for life and creativity.

Here is how writer Boris Nosik writes about the city:

“At the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau, off the coast of Louin, stands this charming town, which is adored by true connoisseurs of France. A tiny fortress town, repeatedly immortalized on the canvases of Sisley, buried in the local cemetery. However, this town was known even before Sisley and before the development of tourism. For it was here that the frontier passed between the possessions of the French kings and dukes of Burgundy. It is said that a black nun lived here in the Benedieti monastery. It is alleged that she was the illegitimate daughter of King Louis XIV, and that the king often visited her, coming here in the company of Madame de Montaignon.

The tour can be combined with a visit to the castle of Fontainebleau or drive to the ancient city of Nemur and see the old castle there.
