La Villette Park

Corentin-Cariou or Ave. Jean-Jaures, Paris, France

Description:

On the northeastern edge of the XIX arrondissement of Paris is the park La Villette. The size of its area is impressive. It is 55 hectares, of which 35 hectares are green, so it is considered one of the largest parks with a huge natural zone in the French capital. The park crosses the Urk Canal, the northern and southern parts of which are connected by two pedestrian bridges.

Once on this site was a slaughterhouse with a large wholesale market for the sale of meat. However, due to the increase in population and the growth of the city, the question of their transfer arose. Meria decided not to destroy the steel structure of the building, as, in historical terms, they were erected even before the construction of the Eiffel Tower. The reconstruction project was entrusted to the famous French architect of Swiss origin Bernand Chumi. Construction continued from 1984 to 1987. Thanks to him, this area has become a kind of cultural and entertainment center, located in harmony with nature.

La Villette Park has an indoor gallery with a wavy roof, which serves for scenic walks and stretches along the canal, and there are 35 buildings that are visited by about 10 million people a year. One of them is the City of Science and Industry, which is also a museum. The cultural program of the institutions amazes with its diversity. Throughout the year, visitors have interesting entertainment programs: theater and circus productions, concerts, summer cinemas, equestrian complex, all kinds of attractions that cause delight. Now La Villette Park is not only a picturesque area - the decoration of Paris, but also a favorite holiday destination for both tourists and Parisians.
