Square Ver Gala

1er arrondissment, Paris, France

Description:

Ver Galan Square is located on the famous island of Cité, as well as many famous historical monuments and other attractions. If you were to the western end of the island, then you should definitely look into this small cozy square, located near the Pont Neuf Bridge, to enjoy peace and quiet.

The name of the square is translated from French as "green and gallant". This term has traditionally been used in Paris to refer to old ladies. This name was chosen not by chance, because the number of ardent ladies' pleasers was also King Henry IV, whose equestrian statue from the XIX century rises at the Neuf Bridge. It was in his honor that a green square with fountains, comfortable benches and spreading trees was laid out.

Descending from the bridge into the square, visitors see a memorial plaque that reminds of those times when this place was covered with a gloomy atmosphere, because before there were executions. The most famous sad event was the execution of Jacques de Molay, Grand Master of the Order of the Templars, which took place in 1314 on the orders of King Philip IV.
