Versailles Garden and Park Complex

Versailles, France

Description:

The garden and park complex in Versailles, the former royal residence, is unique in its kind. This is a grand creation of man, created by order of the Sun King Louis XIV. Andre Lenotre, an eminent landscape architect who had created many masterpieces by this time, set to work with enthusiasm. And on a marshy place of 10 square kilometers, near Paris, a real masterpiece appeared in a few years.

According to the tradition of the XVI century, the park was created as a single complex consisting of different gardens. There are many details of the artificial landscape - grottoes, 1,400 fountains, wide canals, several ponds, statues and sculptures and even its own theater. The entrance to the garden of Versailles starts from the Place des Armies. Passing through the palace, you can get into the greenhouse, to ponds or to small groves in which fountains and sculptures hide.

Every small garden inside the complex of Versailles communicates with others. Here you can walk for several hours in a row before finding the Trianons. The Grand Trianon, built under Louis XIV, is a smaller replica of Versailles, and the Little Trianon, built under Louis XV, is a small summer palace. In the Little Trianon on the shore of the Great Lake there are craft buildings and residential houses like a real village. There is a pigeon cot, a cheese factory, a farm and other outbuildings. It differs from the rest of the park in its naturalness and proximity to simple peasant life. This summer house wanted to see Marie Antoinette, a fan of the ideas of J.-J. Rousseau.

It is impossible to describe the entire Versailles complex in words, but anyone who gets here is impressed for a long time.
