The Invalides Bridge
Pont des Invalides, 75007 Paris, France
Description:
The Invalides Bridge, built in 1829 and rebuilt in 1855, is an arched bridge located between the Alma Bridge and the Alexander III Bridge. Nearby is the House of the Disabled, hence the name of the bridge. Structurally, the bridge is a structure of four arches, two of which are 34 meters long, and two are 36.
The initial project of the bridge was developed in 1824-1825, but the construction was carried out only after 4 years. In addition, the draft was changed. Initially, it was planned that the bridge would be suspended and lie on the axis of the esplanade of the Invalides, but in the end the design turned out different. That bridge stood until 1854, and a new structure appeared only a year later - in preparation for the Paris World Exhibition.
The Invalides Bridge is one of the most interesting buildings. Its central support depicts a figure that is a symbol of numerous victories of Napoleon, and placed on the rest of the supports of the sculptural heads — war trophies.
