Piv's mansion

Description:

The mansion was designed and built by the famous architect Pierre Mangain. For ten years he worked on this project, all work was carried out in his presence, he was the author of the design of all details from architecture to interior. In this house, receptions and dinner parties were held, to which artists and writers were invited.

The building was built in 1866 for the mysterious Marquis Paive, the girl of Teresa Lachman, a Moscow native. However, no one really knew who she was. Even in Russia, an enterprising young lady married the French tailor Antoine Villeouang, but, once in Paris, quickly left her wife for the sake of social life. Wealthy lovers, among whom were the composer Hertz and Count Guido Henkel (a relative of Bismarck, a millionaire), as well as a new short-lived marriage with the Portuguese Marquis Paiva helped her open and luxuriously furnish one of the most famous Paris salons. Stuff upholstery walls, carved wood frames and doors, a staircase of rare African onyx, sculptures of stucco, generous plaster stucco stucco cornices and fireplaces, completely covered with mirrors and mosaics bathroom with gilded brass font - all this could not but make noise among contemporaries. Fortunately, the work of the architect Pierre Manguin, the painter Baudry, the sculptors D'Obe, de Barrias and Dalou has survived to this day in almost original form.

Now here is the prestigious Anglo-French “Travellers Club” (“Travellers”), which took care of the preservation of the legendary monument.
