Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

12 Rue Daru, 75008 Paris, France

Description:

It is no secret that a large number of Russians have lived in Paris since the time of the Russian Empire. At that time, the Russian community had a problem - the only place of worship was located on the territory of the embassy, and could hardly accommodate even a small part of the faithful.

In 1847, the chief priest of the Russian Embassy in Paris Joseph Vasiliev wanted to build a permanent church. After a long fuss with the bureaucracy, the French government approved the project. Thus began the construction of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The construction was carried out with donations, most of which came from Russians from all over the world. Surprisingly, the French also joined the donations.

The cathedral was consecrated on September 11, 1861, and in the twentieth century was listed as a historical monument of France.
