Lepic Street

Paris, France, Rue Lepic

Description:

Lepic Street runs along the hill of Montmartre. It used to be called the Imperial Road and during Napoleon Bonoparte’s time was the main district road. In 1864, it changed its name in honor of General Louis Lepic, a national hero who defended Montmartre against Russian troops.

The popularity of the ancient street increased after the release of the film “Amelie”, which takes place in the cafe “Two mills”, located in the house No. 15.

In the house number 54 on this street lived with his brother and created his masterpieces Van Gogh. The view from the window inspired the great artist to write the canvas “View of Paris from Theo’s apartment on Rue Lepic”. And in house number 73 is the famous cabaret "Moulin Rouge". On Lepic Street, Louis Renault won a bet with friends that his car would be able to climb a steep mountain rise, which began the success story of the Renault automobile company.
