Rue Saint-Dominique
rue St.-Dominique, Paris, France
Description:
St. Dominique Street got its name in 1631 in honor of the religious Dominicans who settled in the area. Before that, the street had several names, but each of them had something to do with the road.
On Rue Saint-Dominique there are several famous buildings in Paris. First of all, this is the Amelo de Gournay Hotel. It appeared here in 1710 at the initiative of the diplomat Michel Amelo de Gournay. The building has an oval courtyard and huge pilasters in front of the facade. At one time he received marshals and princes.
Near this hotel is the Tavannes Hotel. It was once home to the chemist Jean Baptiste Dumas.
Nearby is the De Brienne Hotel. It was built in 1724 on the initiative of François Duret. Before its completion, the Marquis de Prie was resold. It is now owned by the French Ministry of Defense.
