St. Louis-en-L'Ile

Paris. Saint-Louis island. Embankment, 75004

Description:

St. Louis-en-l'Isle is located on the island of Saint-Louis, in Paris, France. It originates at the bridge of the same name Saint-Louis. After just a few steps, it is easy to find that this is almost the most peaceful place in Paris, resembles a small town with small alleys, a school, a church and even a gas station. The buildings and houses are located close to each other and offer stunning views of the Seine.

Until the XVII century, the island belonged to Notre Dame Cathedral, and here, mainly duelists, archers, and also here was located God’s court, where you could prove your innocence, through a battle without rules with your opponent, before whom you had to prove your legal innocence.

But in 1635, architect Christophe Marie began to change the landscape. Mansions and hotels began to be built here, in which, a little later, famous persons not only of France, but also of the whole of Europe found shelter.

St. Louis-en-l'Isle is notable for its famous all over Paris ice cream, which in the half-century shop of Berthillon, Mr. Raymond Berthillon, there are about 70 species.
