Bourdel House Museum

18 rue Antoine-Bourdelle, Paris, France | 15e

About the company:

The Bourdel House Museum is located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. This art museum has preserved the studio of the famous French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, who was a student of Auguste Rodin. Bourdel worked in this mansion from 1885 to 1929. In the early 30s, he decided to convert his studio into a museum. In this he was helped by Gabriel Cognac, who bought the premises, thereby preserving the collection of works of the sculptor from theft and sale of private collections.

The mansion was enlarged by architects Henri Gottruchet and Christian de Portsapark and opened to the public in 1949. The museum presents more than five hundred works, including marble, plaster and bronze statues. The studio stores the originals of plaster castings of some of Bourdel's best works. Here you can see twenty-one versions of working images of Ludwig van Beethoven and his final version. In the garden in front of the museum are exhibited copies of famous Greek and medieval sculptures.

In a smaller volume, the museum presents a collection of paintings, pastels, fresco sketches by such artists as Eugene Carrier, Eugene Delacroix, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Adolf Joseph Thomas Monticelli, Pierre Puvy de Chavanne and Auguste Rodin.
