6 Rue de Furstenberg, 75006 Paris, France
About the company:
The Delacroix Museum is the national art museum of France. It is located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, on Rue Furstenberg in house number 6. Eugene Delacroix (1798-1863), an outstanding French painter, spent the last six years of his life in the apartment of this house, located near the church of Saint-Sulpice, where from 1847 he painted the walls. The most famous works of Eugene Delacroix are his self-portrait and the painting Magdalene in the Desert.
After the death of the artist, his fans and connoisseurs of talent, formed the Society of Friends of Eugene Delacroix. Pursuing the goal of preserving the great legacy of the famous master, in 1952 the Society bought a studio apartment and a garden near the Delacroix house. All the property was given as a gift to the French government. Since 1971, the official opening of the Delacroix House-Museum took place here.
Currently, the museum-apartment stores a composition from the collection of paintings, memorabilia, photographs, written sketches, displaying a series of all stages of the artist’s life. Also here you can see an easel, palettes, a drawing table, the bed on which Eugene Delacroix died and other household items. As an addition to the exhibits, the museum contains souvenirs brought by him from North Africa in 1832.
