14 Rue de la Rochefoucauld, 75009 Paris, France

About the company:

The Gustave Moreau Museum is located on Larochefoucault, in Paris. The museum is one of the most unusual in the whole city. There are about 14,000 exhibits, which are represented by paintings, unfinished canvases, sketches and letters of the famous artist. Also in the museum you can see the personal belongings of Moro. Even after the census of all the works of the artist, the caretakers made discoveries. Paintings not yet unfolded after Moro’s death were found and described, along with documents and letters that slightly revealed the secrets always surrounding the great artist.

The museum is located in an estate that Moro inherited from his father in 1852. He lived there for about 50 years, fruitfully working on his works.

The house in which the museum is located is built in the style of neoclassicism. The reconstruction of the building for the museum was carried out by the architect Danville. As a result, the museum is represented by two spacious galleries, which exhibit the famous works of the artist – “Salome”, “History of Humanity”, “Jupiter and Semela”, as well as some works by his friends, Chasserio and Degas.

The main style of the artist and the works exhibited in the museum is symbolism, depicting biblical and mythological characters.

The museum opened in 1903, and its first caretaker was the best student of Moreau - Georges Rouault.
