Museum of Ceramics
2 Place de la Manufacture, 92310 Sevres, France
About the company:
Not far from Paris is its suburb of Sèvres, it is in it, on the left bank of the Seine, on the square of the Manufactory, since 1824 there is a museum of pottery. The initiative to create it was shown by the manager of the manufactory, a well-known connoisseur of chemistry and mineralogy of Sevres Alexander Brogniar. This suburb, since the beginning of the XVIII century, is famous for its ceramics and faience products.
Sèvres is one of the leading manufacturers of European porcelain. The building of the museum itself is a two-storey luxury mansion, on the 1st floor of which there is an exhibition of East and West ceramics made before the XVI century. On the second floor there are real treasures of ceramics and porcelain masters who lived from the XVI century to the present.
Most of the works presented in the Museum of Ceramics of Sevres are the works of local craftsmen. And also here are worthy exhibits of different eras: ancient Greek masters of pottery, Moorish clay vessels, the famous finest Chinese porcelain, the works of American masters and others. In general, the museum has almost 50 thousand pieces of ceramics. The entrance to the museum is decorated with porcelain vases, which impress with their majestic size. Since 1927, the Museum of Ceramics has acquired the status of the Louvre exposition, since then the collection of the museum has been constantly replenished with the works of modern masters.
