Museum of Smoking
7 Rue Pache, 75011 Paris, France
About the company:
For centuries, smoking was treated very ambiguously: some considered it intoxicating magic, someone associated with a terrible devilish habit, and someone regarded smoking as a sign of bohemian life. And in 2001 in Paris near the Bastille square was opened a very original museum - the Museum of Smoking.
Despite a rather small area of only 60 square meters, the exposition of the museum is very, very informative: there are a variety of objects related to smoking.
Visitors to the museum will see a chic collection of pipes of various shapes and sizes (including even “spy” pipes with secret compartments). Among them there are both widespread types of tubes, and quite rare. In addition to pipes, the exhibition includes various varieties of tobacco, air fresheners and numerous paintings, engravings and photographs.
The museum has a small greenhouse where visitors can see how tobacco is grown. Do not think that the museum promotes smoking, here with this quite strictly - among the exhibits there are brochures about the dangers of smoking. They just talk about the history of smoking. In a small shop at the museum, you can buy both original pipes and various literature with recommendations on how to break with this habit.
