Abbesses Metro Station

Description:

The Abbesses Metro station did not belong to Paris. She was Montmart. And only in 1963, when this city became part of Paris, the station was considered to be Paris.

It is a metro station that has twelve lines leading to the Montmart area and the eighteenth arrondissement. Abbesses is one of the shallowest stations of the Paris Metro and opened in 1912.

It is only thirty-six metres underground and is located on the west side of Montmart. Access to the platforms of this station can all come with the help of elevators, but you can go down or climb the wonderfully decorated stairs.

The entrance to this station was designed by Guimar Hector. The entrance has the original glass, which exists only in two copies. The exact copy is located at Place Sainte-Opportune.

The name "Abbesses" was given by the abbots of the Paris Abbey. Its first overhaul of the station took place in 1931 and since then was repaired only almost forty years later - in 1970. Then twelve lines were added here.
