Montparnasse Station

Description:

Montparnasse Station is located on the border of the 14th and 15th arrondissements in Paris. It is one of six railway stations, the largest in Paris. Trains come here from Brest, Saint-Malo, Toulouse and the Atlantic coast. Passenger traffic per year is 50 million people.

The station building was first rebuilt in 1849. Now on this site stands the famous tower of Montparnasse. The first name of the station was left-bank east. Then in 1852, according to the project of Victor Lenoir, a new building was built and by the mid-30s, another building was completed - a building serving long lines.

Years passed and it was time to rebuild. It was decided to build a skyscraper on the site of the old station, and move the station to several hundred meters. In 1969, the grand opening of the Montparnasse station took place. In 1990, glass panels appeared on its facade, for which the station was given the name “Door to the Ocean”.
