Saint-Lazare Station
Description:
Saint-Lazare Station is interesting to visit not only as the largest transport hub of the French capital and the second largest railway station in Europe after the North Station. Saint-Lazare Station is notable for its presence in many masterpieces of artistic, literary and cinematic art.
Station Saint-Lazare is depicted on many canvases of famous artists. The Impressionists Edouard Manet and Claude Monet lived very close to Saint-Lazard during the 1870s and 1880s. Therefore, the station became the hero of the most valuable paintings. In 1998, the Musée d’Orsay and the National Gallery of Art in Washington hosted a famous exhibition called “Manet, Monet and St. Lazare Station.” Moreover, Claude Monet painted the station Saint-Lazare on 12 of his canvases!
The station became a beautiful scenery for the films “Amelie” and “The Double Life of Veronica”. Saint-Lazare Station is also mentioned in Emile Zola’s novel “The Beast Man” and Roland Sadone’s “St. Lazare Station” of the same name.
