Beach of Saint-Tropez
Saint-Tropez, Côte d'Azur, France
Description:
Saint-Tropez is a small town in the north of the Cote d'Azur, in Provence. The geographical location has long been the reason for the unpopularity of this city among tourists. In the late XIX - first half of the XX century, when the tradition of spending holidays on the sea shore was born and developed, such cities of the French Riviera as Nice, Marseille, Monte Carlo became popular. To Saint-Tropez popularity came only in the middle of the XX century.
In Saint-Tropez at different times lived Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse, Chris Van Dongen, Paul Signac, whose paintings in the genre of impressionism began to attract tourists here. In the middle of the last century in Saint-Tropez were filmed such films as “And God created a woman” with Bridget Bordeaux, “Gendarme of Saint-Tropez” with Louis De Funes and “Umbrella shot” with Pierre Richard in the title role. Already in these films captured the fun everyday life of the resort, rich youth on expensive cars, fashionable shops, parties and the chic sea.
As for the beaches of the city, there are several of them. The city beach, located on the central embankment of the city, is more suitable for relaxing with children, but there are always a lot of people here, which not everyone likes. There are beaches outside the city. The most famous of them is Pampellone, a place of parties of bohemian youth. In 1955, the film “And God Created Woman” was filmed here.
Within the city limits next door are the beaches of Ponch and Fontanette (La Ponche / La Fontanette). You can find them by signs. 20 minutes from Ponch beach is Granier Beach. It is not as popular as the above, and therefore not as crowded. If you circle the protrusion of the peninsula on which the beach of Graniers is located, and enter the bay from the sea side, you can get to the beach of Kanebye (Les Canoubiers). It is located just 200 meters from Granier. There is just a magnificent view of the sea. The beach is clean, with fine sand. There are yachts and motor boats in the bay. Not far from Granier is a villa owned by Bridget Bardot.
Not far from the town there is another beach - Salen. There is a sculpture of the Mermaid on the beach.
Also popular are the beaches of Mutte and Bouillabaisse. All information about the location of the beach, the water temperature and the occupied territory can be found on the website of Saint-Tropez.
All the beaches belong to the municipality. Their visit is free. You can rent sun loungers, umbrellas. On the beaches there are rescuers, there are first aid stations.
