The peaks of the Vosges mountain range are crowned with castles of the Middle Ages. One of the most remarkable castles in the region is the Chateau du Haut Koenigsbourg, which is located near the town of Celeste.
Its construction began in the first half of the 12th century. In subsequent times, it was repeatedly destroyed and reborn from the ashes. The castle is now a museum. It is completely restored and is a picturesque complex, stretched on the very top of the mountain range. Here everything keeps the memory of the times of the legendary knighthood: donjona towers, vaulted halls, powerful walls, cut by narrow sockets of loopholes. The castle is picturesque at any time of the year. From the height of its walls offers an amazing view of Alsace.
