Palace of Europe

Avenue Europe, 67000 Strasbourg, France

Description:

Strasbourg, located on the border of Germany and France, is considered the capital of Europe, because it is here that the administrative bodies of the European Council are located. The European Quarter is distinguished by its special atmosphere and modern architecture. The Palace of Europe is located in this quarter, it can not be confused with anything else. It has a quadrangular shape, built of pink sandstone, and for its design was used a lot of glass outside and inside. Flags of the member states of the European Council, established in 1949, are displayed on the square in front of the facade. The main part of the Palace of Europe is made as a spacious amphitheater, around which there are huge steel structures with a lot of glass and picturesque interior squares.

The Palace of Europe in Strasbourg was built in 1975 for the Council of Europe – the first parliamentary assembly in international history, which was created for the closest cooperation of European countries whose policies are based on respect for human rights. The uniqueness of the European Quarter is that the modernized Palace of Europe with glass buildings of original shape perfectly contrasts with the local medieval buildings.
