Description:
Rogan Palace is one of Strasbourg’s most luxurious historic buildings and an outstanding Baroque architectural monument. It is also famous for the fact that it houses the three most important city museums - the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Applied Arts, and the Archaeological Museum.
The building has one basement and three upper floors. It was built between 1731 and 1742 by the famous architect Joseph Massol, designed by engineer Robert de Cotte. Construction of the Rogan Palace was started on the site of the old dilapidated archbishop’s residence. In 1744, King Louis XV came to the palace of Rogan, and in early 1770 - the great Queen Marie Antoinette.
In 1805-1806, Emperor Napoleon I visited here with his first wife Josephine Bogarnet. At his direction, the halls and rooms of the palace were redecorated and slightly remade. In 1810, in the palace, Rogan spent the first night on the hospitable French land of Maria Louise - the second wife of Napoleon. Currently, this place attracts many tourists from all over the world.
