Kammerzel Mansion
16 Place de la Cath drale, 67000 Strasbourg, France
Description:
Kammerzel House is one of the most famous medieval houses of Strasbourg, magnificently preserved to the present day.
It was built in the XV century, but only the first floor remained unbuilt, and the remaining three floors and attic were rebuilt in the XVI century. The windows of the house are decorated with carved figures depicting mythological creatures, historical figures and biblical characters. Interestingly, none of the figures on the building are repeated.
Today, Kammerzel’s house houses a restaurant and a small 3-star hotel. All floors of the building are decorated in a modern style, but the first floor is designed in the traditions of the medieval atmosphere. Here, everywhere on the walls are hung frescoes of the artist Leo Shnuga: “Tantal Torments”, “Ship of Fools”, “The Last Food of the Convict” and other works in the style of the Middle Ages.
