Grand-Ringelstein Castle

Rue de Schotten, 67280 Oberhaslach, France

Description:

Grand-Ringelstein Castle is a ruined castle in Oberalash, France, built in the early thirteenth century at an altitude of 644 meters above sea level, around several sand cliffs. At the top of the cliff today, only scant remains of buildings can be seen, including the remains of a pentagonal holder in the north, the most accessible part of the castle. Opposite the polygonal fence, which is surrounded by a group of stone rocks, still well preserved, several small arched openings can be seen in the southwest.

After the disappearance of the family, the castle passed to the Bishop of Strasbourg. In 1470, becoming a refuge for knights - robbers, it was destroyed. Now the castle is in state ownership, it was listed as a historical monument in 1898.
