Gulf of Guinea

Atlantic

Description:

The Gulf of Guinea, due to the fact that it intersects the equator with the zero meridian, is considered the center of the earth. The bay belongs to the Atlantic Ocean and washes the coast between Cape Palmas (north-western Liberia) and Palmeirinhas (south-eastern Angola). It has daily tides, up to 2.6 meters in size. The bay is divided by a chain of islands into two smaller bays: Benin and Biafra.

In the bay are squid, sharks, flying fish, pilot fish and other species.

The Gulf of Guinea is rich in oil produced here. For example, a quarter of the US oil consumed comes from these fields. The region is considered promising and one of the best among the world’s oil and gas deposits.
