Port-au-Prince Cathedral
Ruelle St Laurent, Port-au-Prince, Haiti 43 m N
Description:
The Cathedral of Port-au-Prince has more than a century of history, which today is almost cut short.
The construction of this most important spiritual symbol of the Haitian capital began in 1884 and continued for thirty years. The consecration of the cathedral took place in December 1928, after which the number of parishioners increased many times.
An interesting fact is that one of the towers of the cathedral is crowned by a dome that once stood on a lighthouse in the harbor of Port-au-Prince.
Unfortunately, the Cathedral of Port-au-Prince was thoroughly destroyed during the monstrous earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010. At the moment, the fate of the cathedral remains in question: only time will tell whether the Haitian government will be able to allocate funds for the restoration of the cathedral or not.
