Osu Castle
Description:
Osu Castle was built in the XVII century, played an important role in the life of the country, and is now known as the government residence. The castle is also a popular tourist attraction.
The castle was built at a time when leading colonial countries were trying to gain a foothold in the region to establish trade in slaves, gold and palm oil.
Osu was built by a Danish merchant in 1657 and served as the residence of Danish traders. In 1850, it was sold to England for £10,000 and became the seat of the colonial government, which it served until Ghana gained independence in 1960.
Since then, the presidential palace has been located here. In addition to the palace, tourists can visit the shopping center, post office, cafe and garden located on the territory of the castle.
