Ludwig Forum Centre-Museum

Julicher Straß e 97-109, 52070 Aachen, Deutschland

About the company:

The Ludwig Forum in Aachen is not so much a museum as a cultural center where a variety of events are held. Along with the demonstration of his own collection, the main direction of his work is to organize meetings with cultural and art figures and create conditions for the implementation of such artistic forms as actions and performances.

The current museum was opened in 1991 as the successor to the "New Gallery - Ludwig Collection", which existed in Aachen since February 1970. It is located in the rebuilt building of the former factory for the production of umbrellas - amazing in its simplicity, a monument of industrial architecture of the 20s of the last century, which has become an organic space for modern art. The Ludwig Forum is a huge hall with a glass ceiling, metal reinforcement and internal partitions that do not reach the ceiling (because of this, one picture is always visible to the viewer against the background of another). The exhibits are presented here outside of any chronological or thematic order, the main thing is the visual integrity of the composition.

All the names of avant-garde artists who are rightly proud of the XX century are presented here: Andy Warkhel, Jenny Holzer, Diane Hanson, Eric Bulatov.

But the main direction of the Ludwig Forum is the organization of exhibitions and special programs dedicated to art from around the world. That is why the exposition of the gallery is not static, new paintings are not just brought here - the masters who created them are invited here. A museum-club, a museum for live communication - this is what the Ludwig Forum in Aachen looks like today.
