Museum of Victims of Nazism
Appellhofplatz 23-25, 50667 Koln, Deutschland
About the company:
The building of the Museum of Nazi Victims has no special architectural value. Built in the thirties of the last century, it is a typical German structure of those years. But the main value of the museum lies in its history. From 1935 until the end of World War II, it was the headquarters of the Gestapo (secret state police).
Since 1988, in memory of that terrible time, there is an exhibition on Nazism. Prison cells have been preserved in the basement of the building, which demonstrate the conditions of detention of Gestapo prisoners. On the second floor of the museum are exhibited historical archives and photographs. Unlike other similar expositions, the creators of the museum made an attempt to show not individual thematic areas – feats of resistance or horrors of persecution – but to recreate the very atmosphere of the National Socialist regime.
