Romano-German Museum
Roncalliplatz 4, 50667 Koln, Deutschland
About the company:
The Romano-German Museum is often compared to the famous British Museum. However, its collection of exhibits of Roman civilization can be considered the best of all.
On three floors of the museum there are many ancient Roman household items and jewelry. The heart of the collection are genuine mosaics of amazing preservation. For example, the Mosaic of Dionysus, dating from around 220 AD, is on display on the ground floor, in the main hall of the museum. It was discovered in 1941 during the construction of a bomb shelter. The colorful Mosaic of Dionysus consists of colorful pieces of limestone, glass and ceramics and occupies 70 square meters. The mosaic depicts the Greek god of wine Dionysus surrounded by other gods, dancers, satyrs and nymphs. Among other attractions can be called the tomb of Poblicius and Praetorium. Special attention should be paid to the exposition “The daily life of a woman”, “Private property”, the exhibition of Roman glass.
