Heinrich's fountain
Marktplatz, 98617 Meiningen, Germany
Description:
The history of the decorative fountains of the city of Miningen, which is located on the land of Thuringia, in Germany, is very long, interesting and fascinating. But you should focus your attention on one fountain, which is located in the city center, on the market square. This is where the Henry Fountain is located. It replaced the former Neptune Fountain.
The fountain was designed by Heinrich Wilhelm and Hugo Schneider. The year of its creation is considered to be 1872, it is dedicated to the patron of the city of Miningen - Emperor Henry II. He stayed here many times while traveling in the land of Thuringia.
In 1997, a complete reconstruction of the monument – the fountain – was carried out. The fountain consists of eight lion heads beating water on the ground floor, four gutters with lion heads beating water on the second floor, and four sitting lions on the third floor. The fountain is crowned by a full-length life-size statue of Henry II. The emperor has a crown on his head and holds a scepter in his hands. The fountain of Henry is especially beautiful at night. Specially arranged lighting around it is reflected in the running water. Many tourists specially come at night to admire the flashing glare of the water.
