Burgstrasse 1, 86655 Harburg, Bavaria, Germany
Description:
The medieval castle of Harburg is considered the largest fortress, which has survived to this day in very good condition. The majestic structure was not influenced by time or later architectural trends, so the castle retained its original appearance.
The castle was built according to all the rules of military art to protect the imperial road, which was strategically important at that time. The exact date of construction is unknown, but Harburg was mentioned in the tenth century.
You can get into the castle by going through many protective structures. In addition to the castle and courtyard, many buildings were built, among which is an ancient grain warehouse. The oldest building of the castle is the so-called "Tower of Thieves", built in the XII century.
There is now a hotel and restaurant in the castle. It often hosts various musical events.
