About the company:
The name Fugger can be found in many history books today. The most famous member of the family, Jacob Fugger, was a merchant. The branches of the Fugger business empire were located in almost all cities in Europe. Their companies negotiated with India, South America and Africa, and among the clients are all famous personalities: the Pope, Emperor Maximilian I, Charles V and Ferdinand I Habsburg, the kings of Germany, Spain and Portugal, England, Denmark and Hungary.
Merchants of the Fugger family have always helped those in need, for which the settlement of Fuggerai was built - a city in the city, which is the oldest social settlement in the world. There are still people living here, currently 150 people. The settlement is surrounded by walls, and you can get beyond them only through a guarded gate. The whole town consists of 67 cozy houses with 140 apartments, and the price has remained the same for many years - 0.88 euros / year.
In one of the houses there is a small museum, telling about the development of the merchant business of the Fugger family, the history of the family and the settlement - with photos, archival documents, letters and personal belongings.
