Bamberg Cathedral

Domplatz 5, 96049 Bamberg, Germany

Description:

Bamberg Cathedral is also known as the Cathedral of Saints Peter and George and is one of the seven imperial cathedrals in Germany.

The cathedral was built in the XI century, but the modern cathedral has little in common with the ancient temple, built in the XI century. It was destroyed several times during the fire, so it had to be rebuilt.

The Romanesque temple building is decorated with numerous sculptures and statues. Among them are statues of Adam, Eve and Peter, which are considered the first monumental sculptures in German art. At the corners of the temple are built four towers with a height of 81 meters each.

Inside the temple is impressive with its enormous size. Its main attractions are the Bamberg Rider, the tomb of Pope Clemens II, the tomb of St. Henry II and his wife Cunigunda. Also buried here is the first king of Germany from the Stauffen dynasty - Conrad III.
