St. Stephen's Church

Eisgrube 18, 96049 Bamberg, Germany

Description:

The Church of St. Stephen, consecrated in the XI century by Pope Benedict VIII, is the main evangelical church of Bamberg.

Until the beginning of the XIX century, the church was looted, and its premises were used as barracks. After the transfer of the temple to the evangelical community of Bamberg, the church regained its former status.

Inside the church, the front part of the organ is notable, made in the Baroque style and richly decorated with figures, as well as rococo chairs located in the altar part. Behind the main altar, the columns depict the founders of the cathedral - Empress Kunigunda with Emperor Henry II.

Previously, at the Cathedral of St. Stephen was a convent, as the founder of which was the Empress Kunigunda. She lived there during her visits to Bamberg.
