Bamberg Town Hall
Obere Br cke, 96047 Bamberg, Germany
Description:
The Old Town Hall of Bamberg is also known as the “City Hall on the Bridge” or “City Hall on the Island” as it is located on an artificial island in the middle of the Regnitz River.
The first mention of the town hall dates back to the XIV century. Then, a century later, it was completed in the Gothic style. In the XVII century, the building was supplemented with elements of Rococo and Baroque. The frame structure, called the “Capral House”, has survived to this day in its former form.
The town hall was built on an artificial island on the Regnitz River. This solved the problem of disputes on whose lands to build the town hall: on city or episcopal lands. For a long time it was the residence of the Bamberg bishops.
Since 1993, the town hall has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Now it houses the collection of Strassburg faience "Baroque shine" from the collection of Ludwig.
