Upper bridge over the Regnitz River
Germany, Bavaria, city of Bamberg
Description:
The upper bridge is one of the attractions of the city of Bamberg.
The bridge was built around the 14th century and connects the banks of the Regnitz River. The uniqueness and uniqueness of the bridge lies in the fact that in the middle of the river it passes through the Old Town Hall, built on an artificial island. Now in this building is the Museum of porcelain and faience.
The construction of the bridge is a solution to the religious problem of the Middle Ages. Part of the bridge to the town hall is called the Upper Bridge, known as Oberebrebrücke. The most significant decoration of the Upper Bridge is the sculptural work “Crucifixion”, installed in 1715. Through the arch of the town hall you can go to the Lower Bridge, called Untersbrücke. Both sections of the bridge are built in the Baroque style, decorated with sculptures, among which a place of honor belongs to the statue of St. Kunigunda.
