Sterntor Tower. The wall

Bottlerplatz, 53111 Bonn

Description:

The Sterntor Tower and the fortress wall were built in 1244 as part of the fortifications of the city of Bonn in Germany. In 1898, the tower was demolished so as not to interfere with traffic flow, as it was planned to create a road in its place. Even the intervention of Emperor William II and the numerous protests of the city residents did not help. In 1900, the tower was rebuilt – a building of the same name was erected on the north side of Bottlerplatz, next to the remains of the city wall of 1244.

This architectural monument has an outer arch from the old Sterntor tower. In the square tower installed previously located on the old tower Sterntor image of the Mother of God “Seven tribulations” in 1650 and the Crucifixion with Mary and John, made of stone in the style of late Gothic.
