Bonn

Market Square and Old Town Hall Building

Bonn, Germany

Description:

There are many historical and architectural sights in the city of Bonn, one of them is the Market Square. It is an amazing mixture of old and new buildings, which are associated with many events and outstanding personalities. By tradition, all celebrities who come to the city greet the locals here. On the Market Square walked John Kennedy, English Queen Elizabeth II, Charles de Gaulle and Mikhail Gorbachev. Since 1949, for the first time, all the presidents of Germany have come out here to greet their people. Nowadays, there are many tents on the square, in which vegetables and fruits are sold. But the main decoration of the Bonn Market Square is the Old Town Hall, built in 1738 by order of the Elector Clemens-August.

The Old Town Hall is one of the most beautiful buildings in Bonn. Its facade, made in gentle pastel colors, gives the Market Square a wonderful festive look. On the roof of the building, the Elector’s coat of arms is developed, supported by two lions, and the gilded hands of his clock count down the hours and minutes for almost three centuries.
